Replacement buses from 19th to 27th February to enable bridge repair

Diagram of 19-27 February 2022 engineering work

Replacement bus services will be in place on both the Dartmoor Line (Crediton-Okehampton) and Tarka Line (Crediton-Barnstaple) during February half-term to allow Network Rail to complete bridge repair work near Penstone. Trains will continue to run between Exeter and Crediton for most of the day.

Buses will run Saturday 19 February to Sunday 27 February. They will depart at different times to normal train times and journey times will be extended (Crediton-Okehampton will take 40 minutes). You can look up travel times using the GWR journey planner.

Replacement buses will run between:

  • Crediton – Okehampton
  • Crediton – Copplestone – Morchard Road – Eggesford – Umberleigh – Barnstaple (selected services stop at Lapford, Kings Nympton, Portsmouth Arms and Chapelton)
  • Crediton – Yeoford

Some replacement bus services will extend to/from Exeter St Davids at the start or end of the day.

See replacement bus stop locations at each station (scroll to page 2 of PDF).

Road closure
The bridge repair (just south of Penstone) will also require a longer period of road closure beneath the bridge (7 February to 4 March). Network Rail has contacted local residents.

Future engineering work
Upgrades to enable the Dartmoor Line to move to an hourly train service will mean that the line will need to be closed between Crediton and Okehampton from 25 April to 9 May. Buses will replace trains during this time.
